Patients with heart problems usually tend to use cardiac pumps which assists the heart or even plays its entire role. However, just recently a new cardiac pump was invented by the name of MOMENTUM 3, which is the newest state of the art technology considered as the largest Left-Ventricular Assist Device (LVAD). This device was announced and was put to the test for clinical trials on humans to assess its functionality.
The results are out now, after being used on more than 1000 patents who suffer from heart failure. The results are actually positive which is a high reduction in neediness for operations due to malfunctions in the pump. The pump has shown its reliability and how it works efficiently, replacing the left ventricle; pumping the blood through the cardiovascular system of the patients.
These results were released in Late Breaking Clinical Trial at the American College of Cardiology’s 68th Annual Scientific Session which was conducted by the executive director of the Center for Advanced Heart Disease and medical director of the Heart & Vascular Center at Brigham and Women’s Hospital , Dr. Mandeep R. Mehra, MD. You can check the study and the results of the LVAD through the New England Journal of Medicine, where it was published.
Dr. Mandeep commented on the results saying, “We are thrilled to have completed the largest LVAD trial in the world, to see that all of the early benefits we observed in interim analyses were sustained, and to report reductions in pump-related thrombosis, strokes and mucosal bleeding.”
