On this Wednesday, after the conclusion of Putin’s address to Federal Assembly, Dmitry Medvedev, the Prime Minister, announced that the current government would resign immediately.
Putin nominated Mikhail Mishustin, to be the former Primes Minister’s successor and also asked the cabinet that was currently working to remain active till he picks their successors by the end of the next week. Mishustin’s nomination was set to be confirmed by the parliament (Duma) on this Thursday.
The resignation of the whole Russian government came as a shock for all, amid the already staggering social tensions and also the day by day escalating tensions of war between the United States and Iran which are actually threatened to draw in the South Caucasus region and also Russia.
The state of the nation address by Putin which was only a few hours before the whole government’s resignation was mostly dominated by his desperate attempts in trying to promise the nation, remedies to the social crisis for which the oligarchy and the Kremlin bear direct responsibility.
He said that raising the income of the employees would be the top priority of their government. He also promised measures that were aimed in providing the poor families with support from the state. He also proposed the idea of monthly payment that will be 5,500 rubles ($89,50) for every child between the ages of 3 and 7 to the families that have multiple children in order to deal with the issue of the constantly declining population of Russia. He also said that from the 1st of September 2020, schools will provide free food to all the children from 1st through 4th grade.
He suggested other changes in the structure of the state also in its constitution. Putin announced a referendum on all his proposed changes in the constitution with the media reports suggesting that a bill might be introduced before the summer of this year.
