It’s 2004. Low-rise jeans reign supreme, AIM away messages are works of art, and Shelby Hinkley is obsessed with one thing and one thing only: Tobey Maguire. With her dad out of the picture, her mom totally oblivious, and her classmates treating her like a social outcast, Shelby has poured her entire soul into running the most devout Tobey Maguire fan club the internet has ever seen. But liking Tobey Maguire is not enough. No, Shelby has a plan—an absolutely foolproof, completely rational, no-notes plan: kidnap him and then marry him in her basement. What could possibly go wrong?

Well… turns out, a lot.

A zany Y2K-fueled farce, I’m Gonna Marry You Tobey Maguire is a wild, unhinged joyride through the world of fangirl culture, adolescent obsession, and the utterly unbreakable belief that your celebrity crush would totally love you back if only they knew you existed. Detroit Mercy Theatre Company invites you to grab your flip phone, log onto your LiveJournal, and brace yourself—because some obsessions were never meant to be contained.

This play contains adult themes and language, and is not recommended to those under the age of 13.

I'm Gonna Marry You Tobey Maguire is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals on behalf of Samuel French, Inc.
