Biography
Dr. Nina Favor is a transformational nurse leader and educator with more than two decades of experience designing innovative, simulation-based and interprofessional learning experiences that advance quality, safety and collaborative practice. Dr. Favor is recognized for creating solutions in resource-limited environments, aligning organizational mission and values with a clear vision for sustainable change and leading effectively through periods of rapid transformation. Her teaching philosophy is grounded in psychological safety, learner-centered education and patient-centered care, empowering learners and stakeholders across academic, clinical and community settings.
Beyond academia, Dr. Favor's extends her community impact as a co-founder of the Jewels of Detroit Nursing Honor Guard and vice president of the Lansing chapter of the Black Nurses Association. Her leadership and innovation have earned national recognition, including the Aurora Award for Diversity Excellence and the 2025 AACN Innovations in Nursing Education Award.
Dr. Favor's doctoral work makes a compelling contribution to nursing practice by advancing a scalable, interprofessional education model that integrates doulas into maternal care teams to strengthen communication, role clarity and care coordination—directly addressing structural gaps in collaboration that contribute to inequities in maternal outcomes. This work positions nurses as system-level change agents and offers a replicable framework for improving maternal safety, team performance and patient-centered outcomes across interprofessional healthcare settings.
